Discovery Club provides its members with opportunities to grow
academically, physically, and socially. Through an assortment
of enrichment and recreational activities, in an informal
atmosphere, members will develop skills, positive relationships,
and intellectual curiosity.
Discovery Clubs for students
at Silver Hill, Pentucket Lake, Consentino, Nettle, and J.G.
Whittier schools, and Access 21 at the high school are funded by
a $605,237 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant from
the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary
Education. Discovery Club and Access 21 serve 600 students in
grades one through twelve in school year and summer programs.
Club members have the use of
all the school facilities including classroom and laboratory
computers, gymnasiums, and libraries. In yearly evaluations,
students, parents, staff, and administrators enthusiastically
endorse Discovery Club. Students who qualify for free or
reduced lunch pay no fee to attend. Higher income families pay
an affordable fee. Transportation home is provided.
